I am building a site in vap and i want to know if we can have information other than a information from content item

Yes, you can.
One way I can think off the top is to have a portlet and display info from sources like RSS feeds, database......
Other than the above
Other than the above mentioned u can also have the content from various sources using web service calls to cross domains like market watch, news ,external systems data...etc
